Virtual Toolkit

Though we may be separated, we want to give students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of Grove City College an opportunity to make their online learning environments and virtual meetings feel a little bit more like The Grove. Feel free to download the images below and add one as your virtual meeting or computer background.

1. Find your favorite Grove City College background below and click "download." When the image opens in a new browser window, right-click and select "Save Image As." Please note the location where it saves.
2. Open File Explorer (Windows key + E) and copy this address: %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Teams\Backgrounds\Uploads. Paste it in the address bar toward the top of the window. It may currently say “Quick access.”
3. Copy the background file(s) that you downloaded and paste them in the location that opened in Step 2 above.
4. Launch Teams. During your next meeting or video conference call, click on the custom background slider or click on the ellipsis (…) and select “Show background effect.” The background(s) you uploaded will appear at the bottom of the images shown.
5. Select your image and click "Apply." The background image will appear to be backward in the preview but it does show correctly to others in the meeting.

Please note: If you don't see "Show background effect" as an option in the menu, the feature may not be available on your device at this time. MacOS instructions are listed below.

* Officially, Microsoft has soft-launched the ability to add custom backgrounds, which is possible with the workaround listed above. A full launch is expected in a future Teams update.

MacOS users

1. Find your favorite Grove City College background and download it to your computer. It is important to remember the location/folder where the background saves.
2. Visit your system library via the Go function of the Finder in the top menu bar. Select Go To Folder and type in ~/Library.
3. Follow this path and click through these folders: Application Support ->  Microsoft ->  Teams -> Backgrounds ->  Uploads.
4. Copy the image you want to use as a custom background in the uploads folder.
5. Launch Teams and select your image from the list of available backgrounds.
