Grove City College has captured the Presidents' Athletic Conference's Men's and Women's All-Sports Trophies for the 2023-24 academic year. It is the first time in 18 years that one school has swept both All-Sports Trophies.
Grove City concluded the year with 108 team points on the men's side, good for a 7.5-point margin over runner-up Washington & Jefferson. Grove City's women's squads accumulated 99 points, giving them an eight-point margin over Westminster.
The respective totals are the most in conference history. Grove City's 207 combined All-Sports Trophy points are also a conference record.
“This is a well-deserved recognition for our student-athletes and the entire Wolverine sports program and we’re grateful for each victory and outstanding performance that brought these trophies home to Grov City College,” College President Paul J. McNulty ’80 said. “We’re even more thankful that our athletes excel in academics and sportsmanship and demonstrate a strength of character rooted in faith, which is the foundation of our program.”
Five Grove City men's teams won conference titles and five Grove City women's teams captured conference supremacy this year. Grove City won conference titles in men's outdoor track and field, men's lacrosse, and women's lacrosse during the spring 2024 season. The 10 conference titles are the most by any conference member this year.
“The 2023-24 athletic year was a direct reflection of our Wolverines Together vision,” College Athletic Director Todd Gibson ’02 said. “The All-Sports Trophy is reflective of every piece of our athletic program. This includes every athlete, coach, administrator, faculty and staff member, student, alumni, and fan that touch our program. To win both trophies in the same year, is a rare accomplishment to celebrate, as we compete amongst tremendous competition in the PAC.”
The All-Sports Trophies are annually awarded to the schools which perform the best across the board in league competition. First-place finishes are worth 11 points, runner-up finishes are worth 10 points and the scale incrementally descends until 11th place is worth one point.
This is the eighth time that Grove City has swept the All-Sports Trophy races, with the most recent sweep coming 22 years ago.
Grove City won the 2022-23 Men's All-Sports Trophy and finished second in the women's competition. Grove City won the women's All-Sports Trophy in 2021-22. In 2020-21, Grove City won the men's competition and earned runner-up in the women's All-Sports race.
