Grove City College Associate Professor of Music Dr. Stacy Paparone ’93 was recently elected to serve as president-elect of the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 5.
Paparone will serve two years of a six-year term with PMEA’s District 5 as president elect, two years as president and then two years as past president. District 5 encompasses a four county area that includes Mercer, Butler, Beaver and Lawrence counties.
PMEA is a statewide organization of music teachers and those in the music industry dedicated to promoting the musical development of all Pennsylvania residents. PMEA promotes and supports quality music education, learning and performance in schools and communities and provides professional development opportunities.
Paparone has served in various offices for PMEA at the local and state level including state chair of the Teacher Training Recruitment and Retention Council. Nationally, she is involved with the Society for Music Teacher Education (SMTE), the higher education arm of National Association for Music Education. Through her work with SMTE, Paparone presented at the Music Research and Teacher Education National Conference in Atlanta in March 2016.
Paparone teaches elementary and secondary music methods and supervises music education field experiences and student teachers for the College. She works closely with the Early Education Center at Grove City College to create musical experiences for the preschool children through a series of music classes. Additionally, she directs the Grove City College Singers, a women’s choir, and serves as the adviser to the collegiate chapter of PMEA at Grove City College.
