Grove City College proudly presents Olga Vocal Ensemble, a cutting-edge Dutch a cappella group, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017, in Ketler Auditorium of Pew Fine Arts Center on campus.
Olga hails from the land of tulips, wooden shoes, and windmills and creates pure musical joy from five distinct but harmonious voices. These men stand ready, with their red kettle mascot, to conquer every heart with their powerful and charming presentation.
The ensemble approaches old traditions in a fresh way, combining enthusiasm, humor, and drama with genuine vocal clarity that enchants both young and old. Their repertoire covers more than five centuries, from medieval Icelandic drinking songs to nostalgic tunes of the past and hits of the present. Classical repertoire from Strauss, Mendelssohn and Vaughan Williams are set against Bruno Mars and Edith Piaf in a beautiful fusion of sounds.
Olga was founded in 2012 at the Utrecht Conservatory in the Netherlands. With Dutch, Icelandic, and Russian singers and music from many nationalities and genres. A truly international ensemble, they have performed concerts in the Netherlands, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, the UK and Iceland. In early 2015, Olga released their first recording which includes music from the Netherlands, Iceland, Russia, Scotland and America.
The concert is part of the College’s Showcase Series, which brings the finest in music, art and entertainment to the Grove City College community.
