Lisa Adams Gordon, '78

B.A. in English & Communication

What have you been doing since graduation?
I've worked for over 40 years in broadcast journalism as a television news reporter, anchor, and producer. Right now I produce and anchor Erie News Now on the weekend, report during the week for television and web news, and produce and host a public affairs program called the Insider. I've spent my career at WICU TV, the NBC affiliate in Erie, but we're now a multi-platform company incorporating Erie's CBS affiliate WSEE TV as well.

Why did you choose Grove City College?
I chose Grove City College because of its stellar academic reputation but also because I wanted the experience of studying at a faith-based institution where I could integrate faith and learning.

What did you learn at Grove City College that was most helpful to you after graduation?
All of the courses in my major were foundational for the work that I do. However, it was the required core curriculum that really developed my critical thinking skills. I saw how all disciplines are interconnected and that awakened in me a respect for other fields and a spark that continues to fuel an interest in life-long learning.

How did Grove City College impact your life?
Grove City College shaped my worldview and gave me the confidence to take on any challenge in my personal and professional life. The faculty, staff, and personal relationships I formed helped me to find and grow my vocational gifts and talents. The friends I made at the College take their faith and Grove City College values into all aspects of their lives. In addition to those friends, I have a bond with Grovers from other generations who share a similar worldview. When I come to campus to serve on alumni council and trustee committees, I feel at home and comfortable with people I've never met because of our shared foundation. The same is true when I encounter Grove City College graduates here at home.

What should prospective students know about Grove City College?
It is different from other institutions of higher learning. At a time when schools are competing for students and focused only on career training, Grove City College has never wavered in its mission to turn out fully educated students. Graduates with a Grove City College degree leave campus with a foundation for critical thinking that will serve them well as they adapt and grow in an ever-changing workforce.
