From platform shoes and poodle skirts to mirror balls and smooth jazz, Grove City College’s annual Homecoming Parade will spin familiar beats from the past as it glides through Olde Town Grove City at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26.
This year’s parade theme is “Music Genres” and the College’s fraternities and sororities are hard at work crafting six hip floats for the annual extravaganza. They’ll tour through town along with six great marching bands from area high schools and the Grove City College Marching Band. Also featured in the procession will be the College’s Homecoming Court, winners of the College’s prestigious Jack Kennedy Memorial Alumni Achievement Award, campus organizations, representatives of local service organizations and businesses and, of course, fire trucks and candy for the kids.
Grove City College President Paul J. McNulty ’80 and First Lady Brenda (Millican ’80) McNulty will join classmates in celebrating their 35th reunion, along with others celebrating milestones.
The Homecoming football game between the Wolverines of Grove City College and the St. Vincent Bearcats follows the parade at 2 p.m. at Thorn Field. Pre-game festivities, including crowning of the Homecoming Queen and King, begin at 1:15 p.m.
Area high school bands marching in the parade include Grove City, Reynolds, Conneaut, Moniteau, Lincoln and Seneca Valley.
