The Grove City College Exercise Science Club will host the Third Annual Exercise Science Symposium on March 30 on campus.
The day-long symposium features presentations on current research findings by College faculty and students and experts discussing developments in the field. The theme is “Sports Performance Enhancement and Injury Reduction Strategies.”
“This event allows students to hear from knowledgeable professionals in the exercise science field and gives exposure to students on current research that is being conducted,” explained Joanna Schwab ’17, an exercise science major and senior coordinator of the event. “It also gives students an opportunity to network and gain better understanding of possible career options.”
The event will begin with research poster presentations by students in the Department of Exercise Science and Athletics, showcasing the work in the field done by students and College faculty. Workshops will follow. A strength and conditioning coach as well as a physical therapist will be holding interactive sessions with hands-on activities for students interested in learning more about the professions, including an agility clinic.
The symposium will conclude with a panel discussion with several leading sports medicine professionals, including:
• Dr. Hayden Gerhart – Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist; Tactile Strength and Conditioning Facilitator; Certified Exercise Physiologist; CrossFit Level 1 Instructor; Assistant Professor of Kinesiology, Health and Sport Science at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
• Dr. Jeff Lynn – Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology; Associate Professor and Program Coordinator of Exercise Science at Slippery Rock University.
• Dr. Timothy Noakes – MBChB, M.D., D.Sc.; Professor of Exercise Science and Sports Medicine at University of Cape Town, South Africa.
• Dr. Philip Prins – Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology and Nutrition; Assistant Professor of Exercise Science at Grove City College.
