Grove City College’s Shannon Armstrong ’18 was awarded the 2015 Barbara Lotze Scholarship for Future Physics Teachers by the American Association of Physics Teachers.

Armstrong, of West Chester, Pa., was recognized for her exemplary scholarship, work as a teaching assistant and her involvement in the College’s Physics Club, including helping to plan the annual Physics Day event for local elementary school students.

“Working as a teaching assistant for an introductory physics class has given me a lot of experience and practice working with physics students and explaining physical concepts to them,” Armstrong said. “I enjoy watching students discover physics for themselves through various activities we provide for them on Physics Day.”

DJ Wagner, professor of physics at Grove City College, praised Armstrong’s commitment to excellence in teaching. "Shannon has been a valuable contributor to my physics education research group, and she demonstrates outstanding teaching potential.”

The Barbara Lotze Scholarship is awarded to undergraduate applicants who demonstrate their intent to prepare for and engage in a career in physics teaching at the high school level. The American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) is the premier national organization and authority on physics and physical science education with members worldwide. Its mission is to advance the greater good through physics education. AAPT serves their members with professional development opportunities, communication, publications and student enrichment programs.
