Grove City College to celebrate Homecoming

Grove City College to celebrate Homecoming

Alumni, friends and family and the entire Grove City College community will gather to celebrate the time-honored tradition of Homecoming from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2 on campus.

“Homecoming is a time to recognize our amazing alumni and beloved College home,” Margaret Noel ’10, associate director of Alumni & College Relations, said. “This year we’re celebrating milestone class and Greek reunions and the College’s 140 anniversary. The population of campus is expected to more than double over the weekend as alumni and families return to renew old friendships, make new ones and observe the traditions that all Grovers share.”

Grove City College welcomes the community to take part in several Homecoming 2016 events, including a free concert in Olde Town Grove City.

At 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, the annual Homecoming Parade kicks off on campus and follows a path along East Pine Street to South Broad Street to its conclusion in front of Carnegie Alumni Center. This year’s parade theme is “Fairy Tales” and the College’s fraternities and sororities are hard at work crafting floats related to the theme. They’ll tour through town along with marching bands from area high schools and the Grove City College Wolverine Marching Band. Also featured in the procession will be the College’s Homecoming Court, winners of the prestigious Jack Kennedy Memorial Alumni Achievement Award, campus organizations, representatives of local service organizations and business, and, of course, fire trucks and candy for the kids.

At 2 p.m. Saturday, the Wolverines of Grove City College will face off against the Yellow Jackets of Waynesburg University in Presidents’ Athletic Conference showdown. Don’t miss this exciting contest on the newly resurfaced Thorn Field. The pre-game show, including music and float awards, begins at 1:15 p.m. The Homecoming Queen and King will be crowned at half-time. Admission to the game is free.

At 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Grove City College alumnus and recording artist Joel Ansett ’12 will perform a free concert at Joseph D. Monteleone Youth Festival Park on South Broad Street in downtown Grove City. An up-and-coming folk-pop troubadour, Ansett’s Homecoming show is part of a fall tour that includes dates in Pittsburgh, Ohio and Colorado. Several student acts will warm up the crowd before Ansett performs.

Registration for alumni events closes on Friday, Sept. 23, 2016. For a complete listing of homecoming events, please visit www.gcc.edu/homecoming.
