Groups, organizations, businesses now eligible for awards

Grove City College is expanding the scope of its annual Florence E. MacKenzie Campus-Community Awards to include groups, business or organizations as well as individuals who work to maintain the strong town-gown relationship that the College and the Borough of Grove City enjoy.

Two awards - one Grove City College campus awardee and one for the greater Grove City Borough will still be presented each year, but in addition to any individual having the opportunity to be nominated, the awards will also be open for nominations of businesses or community groups that meet the criteria of working to bring the College and Borough together in meaningful, beneficial ways.

The awards, now in their 35th year, will be presented Feb. 6, 2018. The deadline for nominations is November 30, 2017.

Nominees for both awards must have met the criteria through volunteer effort, not through aspects of employment or other requirements that force interaction. For the College award, any member of the faculty, staff, administration or student are eligible, including student organizations.

To nominate a qualified individual or organizational group for of a Campus-Community Award, include at least one paragraph detailing why the nominee fits the criteria for either award and send to Charlene Shaw, director of Alumni Programs and Events, Alumni Office, 100 Campus Drive, Grove City, Pa. 16127, or via email at cmshaw@gcc.edu.

The award is named for Florence E. MacKenzie, wife of former Grove City College President Dr. Charles S. MacKenzie. Her efforts and involvement included serving as president of Grove City Woman’s Club, the Women’s Bowling League, secretary of the local United Way and president of the Grove City Hospital Board of Trustees, today known as the Grove City Medical Center. The awards have been presented since 1983.
