College offers Girls Who Code workshop

Grove City College is sponsoring Girls Who Code, a fun, informative and inspiring workshop for high school girls from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11 in STEM Hall on campus.

Participants will learn to work with and program Edison robots to compete in a variety of challenges and spend time with women who are pursuing careers in the STEM fields – science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The event for girls in 9th to 12th grades is being planned and led by the Grove City College chapter of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM.)

“We’re excited to be able to offer this opportunity to encourage young women to learn about coding – the infrastructure of our digital society – and hear from women who are pursuing careers in computer science and working in the industry,” Jessica Lewis ’17, president of ACM, said. “It should be a fun and educational experience for everyone.

Computer science faculty will also be on hand to assist and the event is being sponsored by Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV, the Grove City-based educational resource center operated by the state Department of Education.

Registration is required, since space is limited. For more details and to register, visit: https://goo.gl/forms/ixO8OX33Zo748out2, or email grovecityacm@gmail.com.
