Do you feel like you made any concessions to come to a school that is reasonably priced?
The only concession was that Grove City College is not as widely known outside of the geographic area, so other schools have more name recognition (even though they are no more prestigious or academically rigorous).
How is faith incorporated in the classroom?
My professors routinely discussed how Christianity relates to each subject matter (e.g., psychology, science). This helped me to integrate my faith with my career and other pursuits. In fact, the professors model important behaviors like praying before class and having candid conversations about religion.
How would you describe the level of academics you experienced during your time at Grove City College?
Academically, Grove City College was challenging in that students were always found studying and working hard to stay on top of their workload. It was a great preparation for graduate school in that I learned to manage my time and grow comfortable with the idea of always having something I could be working on.
What is the relationship like between the students and the professors?
Many colleges claim to have a low student-to-faculty ratio and boast about how accessible professors are – Grove City College truly is this way. I spoke regularly with my professors about course material, career guidance, and research or internship opportunities. They invest a lot in getting to know us and understanding how best they can support our future goals. They helped me long after graduation in pursuing graduate school and keeping in touch as I’ve begun my career.
What advice would you give to an incoming student?
My advice to all the high-achieving students that Grove City College attracts would be to transition from trying to be perfect to simply trying to learn as much and be as competent in your area as possible. Grove City College will set you up to be well-equipped for your career (employers who know Grove City College love us!), so it’s more important to soak up all the information while you can and worry less about getting a perfect GPA.
How active are students in campus activities such as intramural, Greek life, sports, clubs, musical productions etc.?
Students are incredibly involved, which comes from a close-knit community where most students live on campus. I rarely went home on weekends because I didn’t want to miss anything. Intramurals are very intense since a lot of former high school athletes see this as an outlet for getting back to the sports they used to play competitively. There are amazing choirs and dance ensembles, so these performances are very well attended. Basically, if you’re looking for a social group to join, you will find one – be it a sorority/fraternity, mission trip group, orientation board, etc.
