Cara Papay

Cara’s passion for counseling began during undergraduate study when she first discovered she had a drive to help traditional college students. Following graduation, she embraced the opportunity to work with children with Autism and their families, supporting them in the home, at school, and in the community. She went on to become an addictions counselor, specializing in opiate addiction, before later returning to her interest in counseling college students and finding her home at GCC.

Serving students is what Cara does best. She strives to meet each student where they are and make sure they feel heard. Grounding her CBT approach in a foundation of compassion and kindness, she helps students overcome everything from unhealthy thought patterns to relationship issues. Seeing them reach their personal goals and triumph over challenges is her favorite part of her job.

Cara hopes that students will learn that their mental health is worth investing in because tending to that area of their lives will allow them to thrive in other areas as well.

When she’s not lending a guiding hand to GCC students, Cara loves to chill outside, spend time with the Word, cook, exercise, and hang out with her family.
