Political Science students co-hosting redistricting talk

Grove City College’s Political Science Honorary Pi Sigma Alpha and the League of Women Voters of Mercer County are co-hosting an informational discussion about redistricting in Pennsylvania at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25 in Sticht Lecture Hall in the Hall of Arts and Letters on campus.
 
Suzanne Almeida, executive director of the League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania will present “Fighting Gerrymandering in PA: Where We Are and Where We Are Going.” Redistricting is the once-a-decade process by which states establish legislative districts for state and federal offices. Gerrymandering refers to districts that are drawn to favor one political party.

Dr. Michael Coulter, professor of Political Science, said the League of Women Voters wanted to host a program for students and the community about the issue and how it affects democracy.

“The GCC political science honorary wants to encourage discussion of issues important to the community and significant for political scientists, and so the students were happy to help host this event," Coulter, who serves as faculty adviser to the Pi Sigma Alpha, said.

The program is free and open to the public.
