Grove City College Orchestra’s Winter Concert will feature the winners of this year’s Concerto/Aria Competition.
The concert is at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10 in Ketler Auditorium of the Pew Fine Arts Center on campus. It is free and open to the public.
The orchestra will perform alongside the three winners of this year’s instrumental and vocal contest: Josef Mueller’23, a double major in Music and Biology/Health from Allison Park, Pa., will perform the Saint-Saens’ “Introduction et Rondo Capriccioso in A minor, Op. 28” on the violin; Dabria DiCenso ’23, a Music major with a Business minor from Canonsburg, Pa., will play Jules Demersseman’s “Solo de Concert No. 6, Op. 82” on the flute; Madeline Helm ’24, a Music Education and Vocal Performance double major from Willow Street, Pa., will sing “Les oiseaux dans la charmille from Les Contes d’Hoffmann” by Jacques Offenbach.
Mueller and Lindsey May ’23, a Music Education major from Clintonville, Pa., will serve as student conductors, leading the musicians through the Overture to “Die Fledermaus” by Johann Strauss, Jr. “Finlandia” by Jean Sibelius, respectively.
Dr. Jeffrey Tedford ’00, chair of the Department of Music and Director of Orchestras, encouraged the public to attend the concert. “I am confident that our audience will come away from this concert impressed by the incredible talent at GCC and moved by the power of music,” Tedford said.
