U.S. News: Grove City is first choice for most

More than half of the students who are accepted by Grove City College end up attending, a distinction shared by just a handful of liberal arts colleges and a sign that the College is a top choice for most applicants.

U.S. News & World Report this week released its list of the top “Liberal Arts Colleges Where Accepted Students Usually Enroll.” Grove City College was number 13 on that list, which is based on 2014 data submitted by more than 200 colleges and universities. Click HERE for the rankings.

Grove City College’s rate of accepted students who enroll is 48.8 percent, well above the national average of 29.2 percent. Only 18 schools surveyed by U.S. News had a rate over 45 percent. Three of them were service academies.

The numbers indicate that the College is the first choice for many applicants. Much of that has to do with a unique admission process that helps identify students who will succeed in Grove City’s distinct environment. The College, which provides a rich academic experience at an amazing value in a Christian community, claims remarkable success, with 97 percent of 2015 graduates employed or continuing their education within six months of graduation.

“Students know Grove City College is a great value for them and accepted students find a willing partner in furthering their academic and spiritual growth,” Sarah Gibbs, director of admissions, said.

Several factors have contributed to the College’s success. Alumni, friends of the College and the faculty and staff help out as recruiters, spreading the word to students who would flourish at Grove City. Another factor is the relationships that the Admissions Office builds with each family, potential student, guidance offices and youth pastors. As Admissions Office staff travels and communicates with these groups on a regular basis, families and students understand Grove City College that much more and can determine if it is the right fit for them.

The Admissions Office also credits on-campus interviews. Each student is highly encouraged to interview with an admissions counselor as part of their application process. In doing so, the office gets to know the student better and becomes the advocate for the student throughout the admissions process.

The application deadline for fall 2016 is Feb. 1. For more information about applying to Grove City College, visit www.gcc.edu/applynow.
