Grove City College’s Showcase Series kicks off 2024 with a performance by the U.S. Army Woodwind Quintet at 8 p.m. on Feb. 7 in Arnold Recital Hall in the Pew Fine Arts Center on campus.
The Woodwind Quintet is one of the premier chamber ensembles of the U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own,” which was formed in 1922 by General John J. Pershing, who believed bands played a vital role in troop morale and efficiency and wanted America to have a premier band to surpass those of Europe.
The quintet, a crack team of military musicians, is frequently called upon in support of high-level military and civilian events. Performances foster a connection between the public and the armed service.
“The U.S. Army Woodwind Quintet is one of the finest ensembles in the world and we are incredibly fortunate that we are able to fit them into the schedule this February. It will be an engaging and exciting concert,” said Dr. Jeff Tedford ’00, chair of the Department of Music, which curates the Showcase series.
Tickets are now available here.
The Showcase Series brings creative and cultural offerings to campus each year for student and community enjoyment. The performances highlight the arts as an integral part of the Grove City College experience.
Other upcoming spring Showcase Series shows include:
- Organist Adam Brakel at 8 p.m. March 8 in Harbison Chapel on campus. Hailed as “an absolute organ prodigy” by National Public Radio, Brakel has one of the largest and most diverse performing repertoires in the world. Tickets.
- Piano Trio featuring Bethany Danel Brooks, Anne Martindale Williams, and Christopher Wu at 7:30 p.m. March 20 in Arnold Recital Hall. Members of this regional trio represent the cream of the crop in classical musicianship. Tickets.
