Presale tickets are available now for the Johnnyswim concert at Grove City College on March 29.
The all-ages show includes Nathan Colberg, a rising star from Charlottesville, Va., who will open for Johnnyswim, a husband-and-wife duo who meld folk, soul and rock into music that is both spiritual and emotional.
Johnnyswim consists of Amanda Sudano – the daughter of disco and R&B icon Donna Summer – and Abner Ramirez. They began making music together after meeting at church in 2005. The Los Angeles based duo has released two studio albums, as well as three EPs, and will be releasing a third album – “Moonlight” – next month.
They have been described in the press as a “mix of Lauryn Hill and John Mayer” and earned rave reviews as a live act. As well as a significant following in Christian circles, Johnnyswim has garnered positive reviews from mainstream outlets and been featured on national media platforms including NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert.
Colberg is a newcomer to the music industry and released his Kickstarter-funded full length album “Silo” last year. His catalog has been streamed over two-and-a-half million times.
The concert is being presented by Stonebridge Concerts, a Grove City College student organization that works to bring successful and popular musicians and bands to campus. A student poll last year identified Johnnyswim as one of the top acts students wanted to see.
“Johnnyswim simply makes amazing music. They have been given extraordinary talents, and they have unbeatable chemistry when they make music together. Their style is unique and attracts people with a broad variety of music tastes – it’s not a style that goes out of fashion, but one that stays popular,” Emily Stein, vice president of Stonebridge Concerts, said. “Their talent and stage presence transcend many other bands. A Johnnyswim live show is arguably one of the best you can see, and whether you know their music or not, you are guaranteed an enjoyable night.”
“One of the main reasons Johnnyswim is so popular is how relatable they are. Amanda and Abner are very active on social media and they are open about sharing their life – the ups and downs that we all face and can relate to. They are a Christian couple with a healthy family life that they are willing to share with the world, which is something a lot of people appreciate,”
Tickets are available to the general public at a presale cost of $25 online at www.gcc.edu/johnnyswimtix.
