Stream on: GCC Orchestras, ensembles release new albums

Grove City College’s Department of Music has dropped four new streaming albums featuring some of the top performances by student instrumental and vocal ensembles.

The new releases capture live and studio recordings from the Grove City College Touring Choir, Jazz Ensemble, and Symphony and Chamber Orchestra and are available on Spotify, Apple Music, and other streaming services.

“I am thrilled that we can bring this music to our alumni and friends and provide a memento for our current students and alumni of their time in these ensembles. The ensemble program at Grove City College brings students from across campus together in our pursuit of excellence in musical performance and desire to use our gifts to glorify God,” Dr. Jeffrey Tedford ’00, department chair and professor of Music, said.

Since 2017, the department has produced a series of streaming albums. The latest releases are:

  • “Touring Choir 2023-24” – Recorded live during the ensemble’s spring 2024 tour through Virginia, North and South Carolina, and Maryland, with additional songs from the choir’s tour-capping home concert. Dr. Katherine Mueller, director of Choral Activities, Tedford ’00, and Erich Lascek ’93 and then-seniors Tristan Donica ’24, Madeline Donica ’24, and Harmony Rivers ’24 conducted the choir. • “Jazz Ensemble 2023-24” – Directed by Dr. Joseph Hasper, professor of Music, the ensemble recorded the album at Red Caiman Studios in Pittsburgh. The six selections include “Honk! If You Love Jesus,” a new work written by Hasper. Listen here.
  • “Symphony and Chamber Orchestras 2023-24” – Recorded live in February 2024 in Ketler Auditorium of the Pew Fine Arts Center, this album includes two selections: “It Is Well,” featuring Emma Danielson ’26 on cello, Sarah Altman ’27 on piano, and the strings of the Chamber Orchestra. The second selection is “A Marvin Hamlisch Celebration.” Listen here: here.
  • “Touring Choir and Alumni Touring Choir: Dr. Douglas Browne Retirement Concert” – Captures the 2014 concert held for longtime conductor Browne’s retirement. More than 200 alumni returned to sing with the 2013-14 Touring Choir in several selections. The album celebrates the 10th anniversary of that legendary performance. Listen here.

In addition to these releases, previous recordings of Grove City College musicians are available for streaming.
