How big of a role did the affordability of Grove City College play in your college decision making process?
Affordability was definitely one of my chief areas of concern when making a college decision. When I researched Grove City College’s policies when it comes to helping to keep the cost of tuition down, I knew that this could be the place for me.
What are some of the ways you have been spiritually engaged while at Grove City College?
I was a Resident Assistant during my sophomore year. In the fall semester I had a weekly Bible study on my hall for the freshman guys I was living with, and in the spring I sent out a Proverb a day for the month of February to all the guys on my hall. It was really exciting to see a simple one-hour Bible study or a chapter in Proverbs generate a dialogue among my fellow classmates.
How would you describe the level of academics you have experienced during your time at Grove City College?
There are definitely challenging classes, but I have found that the rigor adds to the depth and breadth of learning I have been exposed to. I am generally thankful that Grove City College actively seeks to push and challenge students into real-world classes that translate into life after college. The fact that we have one of the most recognizable career fairs/Career Services Offices in the nation stands as a reminder that recruiters and employers know that the challenges we face as students are great preparation for graduate school and or job opportunities.
What are some of the ways that professors ensure that students not only receive information but truly learn and understand how to apply that information?
I took an advertising class where we had to learn how to develop media plans and execute a successful advertising campaign. Instead of merely learning about advertising and doing nothing with it, my professor assigned a project to the class, whereby we broke up into four teams. Each team was responsible for working with a local businessperson in order to help him or her with any and all advertising needs. It was a great example of not just learning information, but actually being forced to put what was learned into practice.
How did you hear about Grove City College?
My grandparents actually took a tour of the College on their way back from a trip to Ohio. They had read about Grove City College in a Christian magazine, and my grandmother was immediately drawn to the charm of the campus. After their visit, they encouraged me to think about applying, and so I did after looking into the school for myself.
Describe your experience with dorm life, particularly freshman year.
It was probably the best year I had living on campus. The guys on my freshman hall bonded right away, and we still love hanging out and grabbing weekly meals together. It was such a diverse group of people that now I have friends who are involved in all sorts of aspects of life at Grove City College. My residence director from freshman year became my boss sophomore year, and now he is one of my best friends on campus. Overall, the environment that Grove City College creates really helps acclimate students to living on their own.
