Grove City College ushered in a new academic year Tuesday with Opening Convocation, a “sacred assembly” in Harbison Chapel that welcomed new students and faculty to the College community.
College President Paul J. McNulty ’80 urged students to use their time on campus wisely. The presidential advice wasn’t aimed at getting students to spend more time focused on their studies, but to redeem the time they have for a higher purpose.
“We should look at time as a God-ordained opportunity to serve eternal purposes,” McNulty told the students.
Classes at the private Christian liberal arts college began Monday after a weekend of activity aimed at acclimating the freshman class of 2022 to a rich and distinct campus culture. Grove City College fosters a life-long community engagement through a campus experience marked by service, hospitality and an abiding respect for others.
The College welcomed a freshman class of 610 students from 34 states – 49 percent are from Pennsylvania – and three foreign countries at Tuesday’s convocation service. Also joining the College community are 86 transfer, new international, dual enrolled high school and adult education students.
Also new to campus are 13 faculty members, representing disciplines including Biblical and Religious Studies, Communication and Fine Arts, Music, Computer Science, Exercise Science, Management and Marketing, Social Work and Modern Languages.
