Grove City earns smartest liberal arts college distinction

Grove City College is one of America’s smartest liberal arts colleges, according to an analysis by Business Insider.

The College made the website’s list of 101 Smartest Liberal Arts Colleges on the strength of the academic program and students’ SAT and ACT test scores. Business Insider reported that research shows that both the SAT and ACT are good measures of general cognitive ability and give a reasonable snapshot of the brainpower level of that school.

Described as an “intellectually stimulating environment and a tight-knit community,” the College boasts students with an average SAT score of 1202, putting Grove City College at 85 on the list.

“We know how bright our students are and how comprehensive our academic program is, but rankings like this one validate the College’s rich academic tradition. They also demonstrate that Grove City College has earned a place among the nation’s top colleges and universities,” Dr. Robert Graham, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, said.

Grove City College is highly ranked by U.S. News & World Report, The Princeton Review, Forbes and others who closely follow higher education. Despite that recognition, the College has been shut out of the U.S. Department of Education’s College Scorecard, an online tool that claims to include “every” college and university in the nation.

The College, along a handful of other schools that followed Grove City’s lead and forego federal funding of any kind, weren’t included in the federal database that breaks down college costs and predicts the future earnings of graduates.
