The Grove City College Wolverines football team hosts Morrisville State (N.Y.) in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III James Lynah Bowl. Kickoff this Saturday, Nov. 17 at Robert E. Thorn Field will be 1 p.m. The game will be livestreamed online at www.gcc.edu/livestream.
Grove City enters Saturday's bowl game on a six-game win streak. Last Saturday, Grove City (7-3) concluded the regular season with a 42-15 home win over Thiel in the 35th Mercer County Cup game. The Wolverines' 7-3 overall record is the program's best since the 1997 team went 9-1 and hosted the ECAC Southwest Bowl.
Each of the six consecutive wins came in Presidents' Athletic Conference play. Grove City (6-3 PAC) set a program record for single-season conference wins. This is the first time in 21 seasons the football team has qualified for postseason play.
Morrisville State (6-4) enters the James Lynah Bowl having won four of its last five games. The Mustangs closed the regular season last Saturday with a 49-7 home loss to third-ranked Brockport State in Empire 8 action. Morrisville State opened the season 2-3 before earning wins over Utica, St. John Fisher, Buffalo State and Hartwick in conference play.
Morrisville State is also making its second-ever ECAC bowl appearance. The Mustangs won the 2014 ECAC North Central Bowl.
Saturday's game will be the first-ever meeting between the programs. This will be Grove City's first game against a New York State opponent since 2005, when the Wolverines visited Alfred. Grove City is 14-13 all-time against current Empire 8 members.
