More than 300 Christian educators will be on the campus of Grove City College this week for the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) Professional Development Forum.
It’s the first time Grove City College has hosted the event, which aims to expand the understanding and effectiveness of teaching from a Christian perspective as well as provide practical guidance to administrators and classroom teachers.
ACSI is the premier international Christian school organization, with accreditation available for over 400 Christian schools in the Northeast region.
The three-day forum and workshop begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday when Grove City College Professor of Biblical and Religious Studies Dr. Julie Moeller ’93 begins an ongoing discussion of “Worldviews in the Spotlight” that will continue throughout the conference.
In addition to Moeller, a number of Grove City College faculty are leading sessions during the forum. They are: Susan Dreves ’97, Instructor of Education; Dr. Samantha Fecich, Assistant Professor of Education; Dr. Phyllis Genareo, Professor of Education; Sandra Herald, Director of Hamilton Curriculum Library; Melissa Lamie, Assistant Professor of Exercise Science; Dr. Patricia Schelffler, Professor of Education; and Sean Severson, Assistant Professor of Exercise Science.
Workshops and sessions are also led by educators from Christian schools in the region, other Christian colleges and organizations such as the Colson Center for Christian Worldview and The Barnabas Group.
“Grove City was asked to host this forum and solicit assistance from professors across the curriculum,” Dr. Lois Johnson, Director of the Office of International Education and Professor of Education, said. “The ACSI Professional Development Forum is a venue for exhibiting best practices in the field of education for the 300 Christian schools affiliates in this region. It is an honor to partner with ACSI for this event.”
Johnson serves a host of the event, reflecting her deep connection to the Christian education movement. As well as serving on Grove City College’s faculty, she helped found two successful Christian schools.
ACSI is an international educational organization that advances excellence in Christian schools by enhancing the professional and personal development of Christian educators. It provides support functions for schools, including teacher and administrator certification, school accreditation, legal/legislative help and curriculum publishing. ACSI has over 23,000 member schools offering preschool, primary, secondary and higher education in the United States and around the world.
