Game on! Homecoming unites campus community

Grove City College celebrates Homecoming 2024 this weekend with returning alumni, students, families, and the public.

Festivities kick off Friday, Oct. 11 with get-togethers and on-campus events culminating in the Jack Kennedy Memorial Alumni Achievement Awards Ceremony at 7 p.m. in Harbison Chapel. The ceremony, which is open to the public, honors four worthy alumni who have distinguished themselves in service, entrepreneurship, scholarship, and the arts.

This year’s honoree class includes: Brig Gen Brad Butler ’76, Dr. Karin Hendrickson ’99, Robert Lewis ’64, and Dr. Barbara (Azalos ’69) Price. The ceremony will be livestreamed.

Saturday events open to the public include the big game, which pits the Wolverine football team against Presidents’ Athletic Conference rival Carnegie Mellon, and the fun-filled Homecoming parade through downtown Grove City.

The parade kicks off at 11 a.m. from the Physical Learning Center on campus and proceeds along Pine and South Broad streets to its conclusion at Carnegie Alumni Center. Greek groups will be competing for top honors with superhero-themed floats. The parade also features the Wolverine Marching Band; marching bands from Grove City, Seneca Valley, and Lincoln high schools; Alumni Association award winners; area organizations; and a troop of bagpipers.

For those who can’t make it to the parade, a livestream is available featuring color commentary from College Trustee Evan Addams ’10 and Grove City College Archivist Hilary Walczak ’09.

Pre-game action at Thorn Field begins at 1:15 p.m. with the winners of the float competition, Homecoming Court introductions, and the Wolverine Marching Band.

At 2 p.m. the Wolverine squad will take to the field. The nationally ranked football team is undefeated this season and hoping to keep that streak going against the equally winning Tartans. The game will be livestreamed.

This year’s Homecoming celebration honors alumni from class years ending in 4 or 9, and includes class reunion activities like group photos, picnic lunches, mixers, and more. Greek groups celebrating milestone anniversaries include: Epsilon Pi (105), Gamma Chi (105), Gamma Sigma Phi (100), Phi Sigma Chi (100), Alpha Sigma (50), and Rho Rho Rho (50).

The weekend comes to a close at 10 a.m. in Harbison Chapel on campus with a Homecoming Worship Service featuring a message by Rev. Jordan Rimmer '04. It will be livestreamed.
