Former representatives to discuss women in politics

The Grove City College Political Science Honorary Pi Sigma Alpha and the Mercer County League of Women Voters are hosting “Women in Politics: Personal Odysseys” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 16, in Sticht Lecture Hall of the Hall of Arts and Letters on campus.

Former U.S. representatives Kathy Dahlkemper and Melissa Hart will discuss their journeys to political office and their careers. Dahlkemper, a Democrat, represented northwest Pennsylvania’s Third District from 2009 to 2011. She now serves as Erie County executive. Hart, a Republican, served in suburban Pittsburgh’s Fourth District from 2001 to 2007. She is an attorney and strategic communications consultant with the law firm of Keevican Weiss Bauerle & Hirsch LLC, in Pittsburgh. She chairs its Government Affairs Practice Group.

The event marks Women’s History Month and will feature a presentation on the Pennsylvania Center for Women and Politics’ Ready to Run Pennsylvania program, which provides bipartisan training that encourages women to run for government leadership positions, and on its National Education for Women’s Leadership program, which educates and empowers young women for future political participation and leadership.
