The art on display in Grove City College’s Pew Fine Arts Center Gallery Thursday, March 27 through April 7 represents a lot more than just the budding talents of a few dozen 3 to 5-year-olds who attend preschool classes on campus.
The colorful paintings, construction paper collages, paper-plate canvases, and xerox and crayon self-portraits displayed in the 4th annual Artist Showcase from the Early Education Center are mounted testimonials to the quality of Grove City College’s Education majors.
Each mini-masterpiece is inspired by the lessons developed and delivered by students who are learning – and practicing – the art of great teaching. It’s a win for Grove City students who gain experience and understanding. It’s a win for the preschoolers, who have fun while learning about art. And it’s a win for parents, grandparents, and the campus community to see the young artists’ work on display.
Hilary Walczak ’09, Director of College Archives and Galleries, said the show also provides students in her Gallery Studies class a hands-on lesson in mounting an exhibition. The show in the Gallery represents “a great intersection between departments, College students, and the campus community’s youngest members,” Walczak said.
And while Gallery visitors will be delighted by the work on display, the biggest fans of the show might be the artists themselves. “Seeing their art in a gallery is a great experience for our youngest Grovers,” Walczak said.
The Pew Fine Arts Center Gallery is open from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday and 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
