College presents ‘A Musical Christmas’ gift to community

Ring in the season with the Grove City College Department of Music’s inaugural A Musical Christmas holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 in Ketler Auditorium of the Pew Fine Arts Center on campus.

“The concert showcases the entire Music Department as every component of our comprehensive music program is involved: Wind Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, Stage Band, Concert Choir, and the Grove City College Singers,” Dr. Jeffrey Tedford, chair of the Department of Music and director of Orchestras said.

Musical selections include Christmas carols and arrangements of holiday favorites like “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “The Christmas Song.” Jazz editions of “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and “White Christmas” will also be performed. The Wind Ensemble will play Leroy Anderson’s classic “Sleigh Ride” and the Chamber Orchestra will perform “A Christmas Festival,” which is performed every year by the Boston Pops at Christmastime. Collage choral groups will perform “Carol of the Bells” and “Go Where I Send Thee.”

“A Musical Christmas shows the community the talent that exists on campus and gives our students the opportunity to present their musical gifts to the audience,” Tedford said.

The concert also serves as a Christmas gift from the College to the community, which will have the opportunity to join in with the sing-along concert finale.

Those who can’t make it in person can watch online at gcc.edu/livestream.

The big concert follows a week of lunchtime Carnegie Christmas Concerts at the Carnegie Alumni Center featuring student ensembles performing holiday music and more. This year’s schedule features:
