Career development at GCC earns distinction

Grove City College’s commitment to provide students with career guidance tailored to their own unique callings makes it a Career Development College of Distinction.

The recognition comes from Colleges of Distinction, an online college and university guide that identifies colleges based on four distinctions: engaged students, great teaching, vibrant community and successful outcomes.

Grove City College’s Office of Career Services has earned national recognition for its efforts, which Colleges of Distinction say meet its criteria for a Career Development College of Distinction. The College integrates career exploration and preparation into the student experience, offers accessible programs and training, employs career counselors to help students and connects students with alumni mentors and corporate partners, according to the website.

“We are honored to receive this ranking from the Colleges of Distinction guide as it’s an acknowledgement of the significant work happening in this department. As an office, we strive to provide first-rate opportunities for our students during their time here and to play a central part of our students’ college experience to help them ultimately become career ready by the time they graduate and to live out their vocational callings effectively for Christ,” Amanda Sposato, director of Career Services, said.

The Office of Career Services provides a wide scope of offerings and services. The office encourages students to embark on a four-step career development process involving self-assessment, career exploration, career decision making and a strategic job search with the overarching mission of helping students realize and pursue God’s calling for their lives. The skills students gain in the process equip them with life-long professional skills to help them successfully navigate their careers in the future.

Grove City College boasts a nearly 100 percent career outcomes rate for recent graduates. Within six months of earning a degree, 96 percent of alumni are either working or enrolled in graduate school. In addition to their comprehensive career development approach throughout the students’ entire college experience, the office organizes an annual Career Fair that draws hundreds of recruiters and coordinates on-campus interviews and numerous other opportunities for students to reach their career potential.

Grove City College is among a handful of schools in Pennsylvania that are recognized as a College of Distinction by the website, which previously highlighted the College’s Business, Engineering and Education programs. The College is also a Christian College of Distinction.
