McDonnell
Grove City College has selected Brian J. McDonnell of Seven Fields, Pa., as the 2022 recipient of the Ronald W. ’64 & Joyce E. Brandon Academic Scholarship.
An incoming freshman and graduate of Eden Christian Academy, McDonnell is the son of Jamie and Lori McDonnell and will major in Business Economics. The $8,000 scholarship is renewable for three more years if annual academic standards are satisfied.
"I am honored to be the recipient of the Ronald W. '64 & Joyce E. Brandon Academic Scholarship. I am grateful for their generosity and look forward to starting my freshman year," McDonnell said.
Brandon scholarships are restricted to Butler County residents and have helped 24 students with their Grove City College education. Rising senior Quinn Cypher of Slippery Rock and rising sophomore Robert Lipnichan III of Bruin will also receive $8,000 Brandon scholarships this year. Cameron Hilliard ’22 of Butler graduated in May and received $29,800 over four years in Brandon scholarship awards.
Brandon scholarships for Butler County students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at Grove City College are also available. Rising junior nursing student Emma Clark of Chicora had her 2022 scholarship doubled to $5,000 in consideration of her outstanding two year Grove City College academic performance.
Asked why the couple established the scholarship, Ron Brandon said that the short answer was in Luke 12:48 where Jesus said; "From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked."
“I came to Grove City because of affordability and have come full circle, perpetuating affordable cost by helping other students,” he said.
Joyce Brandon said even though she isn’t an alumna, she shares her husband’s love for Grove City College because of what it stands for. “It is very rewarding to watch these Butler County recipients mature during their time at Grove City College,” she said.
