In celebration of Black History Month, the Showcase Series at Grove City College is proud to present the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh performing "Let My People Go - a Spiritual Journey along the Underground Railroad" at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 16 in Ketler Auditorium of the Pew Fine Arts Center on campus.
The choir, under the direction of Matthew Mehaffey, will present a moving, historical and multi-tiered production that tells the stories of those who took flight for freedom as well as those risking all to help them.
“Let My People Go” by Donald McCullough is a dramatic work that interweaves spirituals, first and third narrative texts and “code songs” to create a rich tapestry depicting 18th and 19th-century African-American slaves’ struggle for freedom. As a special addition, Grove City College’s Touring Choir will be performing with the Mendelssohn Choir for a portion of the musical program.
The prestigious and popular Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh has performed with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and in many top venues across the region.
