Chapel services are the common expression of our Christian faith as members of the campus community. They are not intended as "church," nor should they be a substitute for church. Rather, chapel is an integral component of the living and learning experience that defines Grove City College. To emphasize the importance of having a united spiritual core, chapel attendance is required of each student.
Full-time students (12 or more credits) are expected to attend at least 12 chapel services per semester, while part-time students (6 to 11 credits) attend at least six chapel services per semester. Students taking less than 6 credits and graduate students are welcome to attend chapel, but there is no requirement for them. Exemptions are approved for study abroad programs and full-time student teachers who are required to be off campus during chapel services.
To receive chapel credit students must arrive on time, swipe their own card (no card, no credit), and remain for the entire service or chapel event. Any attempt to cheat the system will be considered a violation of our campus commitment to honesty and integrity and lead to disciplinary action.
Chapel services will be held on Wednesday mornings from 11-11:50 a.m. in Harbison Chapel and livestreamed in Crawford Auditorium for the first half of the semester. After the midpoint all students will find room in Harbison Chapel. The Faith for Life Lecture Series and the Christian Nurture Workshops will be held at 6:30 p.m. on select Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and held in Harbison Chapel or Rathburn Greatroom unless otherwise noted. On Friday mornings from 11-11:50 a.m. several options are available to give students a choice regarding their Christian growth. These choices include the weekly Prayer Gathering in Harbison Chapel, All-Campus Bible Study in Sticht Lecture Hall, and two waves of educator-led small groups called Fivers which take place in five-week intervals at various locations on campus. Please refer to the Chapel Schedule for the location and time of each chapel event.
If your "Remaining" chapel credit balance is at more than 6 two weeks prior to your priority registration week, a chapel hold will be placed on your student account and you will not be able to participate in registration. Any student with a chapel hold needs to prioritize attending chapel to get their remaining chapel credits down to 6 or less to register for classes during their priority registration window.
Furthermore, graduating students owing more than 6 chapel credits by Study Day will not be permitted to participate in the College's commencement ceremony. All graduates must complete their chapel requirement to receive their diploma.
For any questions regarding a chapel hold, please contact Mrs. Charis Byun in the Christian Formation Office.
