At Grove City College, you can earn a degree in mathematics with a secondary education certification that will equip you for high-impact teaching in middle and high school settings. You will be encouraged to ask meaningful questions and supported by professors who will point you to Christ as the master teacher. With a well-respected degree from Grove City that combines a full mathematics major with top-notch education coursework and fieldwork, you will graduate ready to help students understand and appreciate the complex beauty of mathematics and the importance of absolute truth.

Program Specifics
  • 89-91 major credit hours of rigorous coursework to build your foundation in pure and applied mathematics and equip you to teach at the secondary level. For detailed course descriptions, refer to the College Catalog. If you are interested in teaching math and complementary subjects at the middle school level, explore our options in middle level education.
    • Mathematics major course requirements include Calculus II, Combinatorics or Discrete Mathematics for Computer Science, Linear Algebra, Mathematics for Secondary Education, Calculus III, College Geometry, Theory of Statistics I, Abstract Algebra, Classical Analysis, and Seminar in Mathematics.
      • Students who have not taken calculus in high school may begin with Calculus I and still be on track to graduate in four years.
    • Math electives include options in Financial Mathematics, Differential Equations, Theory of Statistics II, Complex Variables, Number Theory, Intermediate Analysis, and Topology.
    • Major-related requirements include General Physics I or College Physics I and II, as well as Computer Programming I.
    • Professional education requirements include the following and incorporate practical field experience: Introduction to the Teaching Profession, Technologies of Instruction, Educational Psychology, Culturally Relevant Pedagogy, and Methods of Secondary Special Education Implementation, among other courses.
      • In both middle and high school settings, you will learn about classroom management, student motivation, best practices in pedagogy and assessment, and inclusive teaching strategies.
