Program Specifics
  • Extensive curriculum including 67-71 major credit hours of rigorous coursework in mathematics and statistics, computer science, and a domain of your choice. Exploring a combination of theoretical and empirical topics will prepare you to make data-driven decisions and solve real-world problems.     • Mathematics coursework includes foundational probability, statistics, linear algebra, discrete math, and calculus to build your understanding of the theory underlying methods used in data science.
    • Computer science coursework includes computer programming, data structures and algorithms, database management, and machine learning to give you experience with predictive modeling and writing programs to efficiently store, retrieve, and analyze various data sets.
    • Choose from a wide variety of domain areas including business, economics, exercise science, political science, psychology, accounting, finance, biology, chemistry, physics, and more. You will complete foundational and advanced courses to build your domain knowledge and prepare to communicate effectively with professionals in that domain.
    • Data science courses, including a capstone course in applied modeling and data visualization, integrate knowledge from your other courses, providing an opportunity to apply your domain knowledge and skills in mathematics and computer science to solve a real-world problem.
  • Flexibility to double major and complement your studies in data science.
    • For additional depth in mathematics or computer science, you can complete a double major within four years and earn a B.S. in both Data Science and Computer Science or in both Data Science and Mathematics. You may also take additional courses in your chosen domain area to earn a second major. For example, you can complete a second major in business analysis, biology, or political science within four years.
