Join the Wolverine Marching Band

GCC Pregame Formation

The Wolverine Marching Band (Marching Wolverines) has a long history and tradition at Grove City College. As one of the largest marching bands in our division, we pride ourselves in making great music and supporting the College and its mission.

Join the band (Online Sign-Up Form available in January.)

Performances

The marching band performs at all home football games as well as several venues on and off campus. Past performances include Disney World, the televised WPXI Holiday Parade in Pittsburgh, and Pittsburgh Pirates baseball games. Each year, we perform two parade pieces (including our fight song), a pre-game show, and a primary halftime show consisting of four selections plus our fight song. Additionally, our pre-game procession to Thorn Field has become an anticipated and recognized event.

Information regarding the performance schedule will be available over the summer, prior to band camp.

Time Commitment

Nearly every major on campus is represented in the marching band! The band accomplishes most of its work during band camp in August. During the fall semester, the band rehearses Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:50 p.m., and we work with students who have a conflict with a class or lab. Most performances occur on Saturdays. We have designed the program to make participation possible for every student.

Fall 2025 Band Camp Schedule

All band members report to the lower lobby (auditorium) of the Pew Fine Arts Center, 100 Campus Dr., Grove City, PA 16127 when checking in for band camp.

  • Band officers/drumline/pit/frontlines move in: Monday, August 11
  • All other band members move in: Tuesday, August 12
  • Band camp ends: Wednesday, August 20
Band Cost

At Grove City College, we look at the Wolverine Marching Band as a major service provider to the campus and community, and as such, we can keep personal costs to a minimum.

  • Band camp housing and meals are provided at NO COST.
  • Uniforms and cleanings are provided at NO COST.
  • When we perform at our normal travel venues, meals are provided at NO COST.
  • College-owned instruments can be provided at NO COST.
  • Water and snacks during games are provided at NO COST.
  • Dinkle-brand Vanguard black leather marching shoes (approx. $38) must be purchased.
  • Colorguard, majorettes, and marquettes purchase appropriate shoes, gloves, etc. (approx. $45).
FAQs
  1. Will I have time for band? YES! We make participation possible for all students.
  2. What style of marching do you do? We march roll/glide step. Drills are point-to-point corps-style marching.
  3. Do you memorize music? Yes, we memorize pre-game, halftime, and parade music. Using music is permitted in the stands at games.
  4. When will I get music? Music is sent to all band members over the summer.
  5. Does music have to be memorized by band camp? No, but we encourage you to practice and memorize whatever you can. It will give you a head start at camp.
  6. I did not march in high school. Am I able to be in the band even if I have never marched before? YES! You will learn everything you need to know at band camp, and there will be plenty of people there ready and eager to help you. We love getting new marchers in our band!
  7. Do I have to audition to get into the band? No. If you are interested in band, sign up! We will assess ability levels and assign appropriate parts at band camp. We are happy to have you!
  8. How do I know if I’m good enough to be in the band? If you have marched in the past or if you have instrumental experience or a background in dance, twirling, or colorguard, and would like to learn to march, you should sign up for band. We will evaluate everyone over the course of band camp and find a spot for you.
  9. I am really interested in being part of the band, but I do not play any instruments or participate on a frontline. Can I still be part of the group? YES! We always need band managers to help with organization, setup, and tear down, etc. Managers are essential to our success, and we are always looking for more students to fill these roles.
