When you major in music performance at Grove City College, you will be equipped for a rich and fulfilling career as a professional musician. Whether you choose to specialize in vocal, piano, or instrumental performance, you will have abundant opportunities to refine your art through classes, ensembles, and much more. Graduating with a degree in music performance, you will have the skills and expertise to thrive professionally and make a positive impact on and off the stage.

Program Distinctives
  • Rigorous education from a Christ-centered perspective.
  • Accessible faculty mentors – Highly accomplished and widely talented Christian faculty who hold membership in such organizations as ACDA, American Composers Forum, ASTA, BMI, CODA, College Music Society, NAfME, PADESTA, PMEA, Phi Beta Mu, SMTE, and TI:ME.
  • Specialized training – A Bachelor of Music (B.M.) will provide more extensive music credits, personal instruction, and career preparation than you would receive with a Bachelor of Arts music degree – typical from most other institutions.
  • On-campus performance opportunities – 11 faculty-directed ensembles including marching band, symphonic orchestra, and touring choir; and more than 15 chamber ensembles including string quartets, woodwind quartets, flute choir, trumpet ensemble, and chamber singers.
  • Senior capstone recital – Be equipped for a fulfilling career as a performer, while also preparing for graduate school auditions at top universities throughout the United States.
  • Regional performance opportunities – Perform with the Butler County Symphony Orchestra, Greenville Symphony, local churches, and high school musical pit orchestras.
  • Annual Concerto/Aria Competition – Compete for a chance to perform as a featured soloist with the Grove City College Symphony Orchestra.
  • Leadership opportunities – Conduct or perform as a principal player in large and small ensembles and collaborate with faculty in performance.
  • Internship opportunities – Gain real-world experience in the music world with respected organizations such as with the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Trinity Fellows Program, Glimmerglass Music Festival, JR Judd Violins, Csehy Summer School of Music, and Lamplight Artists.
  • Excellent facilities featuring:
    • 22 Boston Steinway practice pianos and four-manual Kimball organ.
    • 28 practice rooms, organ studio, and harp studio.
    • 700-seat performance hall and theatre, 170-seat recital hall, and large ensemble rehearsal hall.
    • Music technology lab.
    • Optional musical theater minor – Add a minor in musical theater, which can help you secure a job working in a community theater setting or as a middle or high school music teacher who directs or conducts musicals.

  • Career paths: professional accompanist, studio teacher, professional conductor, pit orchestra musician, collaborative pianist, vocal coach, studio musician, member of professional performing ensemble, and more.
  • Exceptional career outcomes – 100% of Grove City College music graduates in 2024 obtained employment or were accepted into graduate school. You will be well prepared to compete for top full-time positions or entry into top graduate and professional programs.
    • Many of our graduates have continued their education at excellent schools such as Carnegie Mellon, George Mason, Indiana University, Notre Dame, Peabody Conservatory, Penn State, Royal Academy (London), Westminster Choir College, Yale, and Arizona State University School of Law.
  • Graduate school scholarship opportunities – Like many of our recent graduates, you may be offered full-ride scholarships for a master’s degree in music performance at institutions such as Penn State University, Duquesne University, and Oxford University.

Program Specifics
  • Concentration options in instrumental music, piano, and vocal music. For detailed coursework requirements and descriptions, refer to the College Catalog.
    • Music core requirements include courses in Music Theory, Aural Skills, Music History, Conducting, and more.
    • Concentration core requirements to develop your musicianship specific to singing, piano, and/or instrumental music.
    • Private lessons in your primary area of instrument, piano, or voice with the same instructor every semester.
    • Participation in at least two ensembles every semester, regardless of your primary instrument.
    • Junior recital and senior capstone music recital.
Audition Information

An audition for admission into the music program is required for music majors and minors. For comprehensive audition information, please refer to Instructions for Music Applicants.

  • Musical selections of the standard academic repertoire for your instrument or voice are appropriate (standard, classical, musical theatre, contemporary, etc.), and two or three selections of contrasting style are preferred. 
  • Regardless of your instrument or voice, you will be tested in music theory, tonal memory, and rhythmic skills.
  • Your application for admission to Grove City College must be received by the Office of Admissions by your selected application deadline, and you must also complete your music audition by that deadline.
