Program Distinctives
  • Rigorous education from a Christ-centered perspective.
  • Accessible Christian faculty mentors – Highly accomplished business faculty and widely talented music faculty mentors who hold membership in such organizations as ACDA, American Composers Forum, ASTA, BMI, CODA, College Music Society, NAfME, PADESTA, PMEA, Phi Beta Mu, SMTE, and TI:ME.
  • Specialized training – A Bachelor of Music (B.M.) will provide more extensive music credits, personal instruction, and career preparation than you would receive with a Bachelor of Arts music degree – typical from most other institutions.
  • On-campus performance opportunities – 11 faculty-directed ensembles, including marching band, symphonic orchestra, and touring choir; and more than 15 chamber ensembles including string quartets, woodwind quintets, flute choir, trumpet ensemble, chamber singers, and more.
  • Option to complete either an internship or a senior capstone recital.
    • Internship opportunities – Gain real-world experience in a wide range of professional environments. Recent internships include arts organizations such as the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Glimmerglass Music Festival, Contemporary Music Center in Nashville, Butler County Symphony Orchestra, Stage AE Pittsburgh, Johnstown Symphony Orchestra, Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Stanley Center for the Arts, and Nashville Conservancy for the Arts.
    • Senior capstone recital – Foster your love of performing as you pursue a future career in the music industry. Students who complete the recital have gone on to open and run their own studio lesson businesses, perform professionally, and work in a variety of marketing or sales positions in the music industry.
  • Collaboration opportunities – Partner with a team of faculty, staff, and students on creation and management of various departmental social media platforms.
  • Leadership opportunities – Grow as a leader and boost your resume with experiences in state-level music organizations such as the Pennsylvania Collegiate Music Educators Association (PCMEA).
  • Excellent facilities featuring:
    • 22 Boston Steinway practice pianos and four-manual Kimball organ.
    • 28 practice rooms, organ studio, and harp studio.
    • 700-seat performance hall and theatre, 170-seat recital hall, and large ensemble rehearsal hall.
    • Music technology lab.
  • Vocation-enriching humanities core classes – Deepen your critical thinking, writing, and other communication skills while cultivating empathy and a well-rounded worldview.
Career Opportunities & Outcomes
  • Career paths: studio technician, director of operations for arts organizations, music marketing professional for large or small arts organizations, and more.
  • Exceptional career outcomes – 100% of Grove City College music graduates in 2024 obtained employment or were accepted into graduate school.
    • Many of our music business graduates pursue careers in arts management, events management, sales, communication, marketing, and mass media within the arts and music fields.
    • Others pursue further education at such prestigious institutions as the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and Carl H. Lindner College of Business, Arizona State University School of Law, Belmont University, Carnegie Mellon University, Duquesne University School of Law, George Mason University, and Penn State University.
  • Excellent career preparation – Wherever your music career takes you, you will have the skill set, real-world experience, and grounded perspective to positively influence the music industry and glorify God with your gifts.
Program Specifics
  • Curriculum requirements – 62 major credit hours of rigorous undergraduate coursework in music and business. For detailed course descriptions, refer to the College Catalog.
    • Ensemble requirements include participation in at least one ensemble every semester, regardless of your primary instrument.
    • Elective options allow flexibility to choose a senior capstone music recital or an internship in the field of music business.
    • Business concentration requirements include options in business, management, and marketing.
  • Musical theater minor option – Music majors often add this minor, as well as other minors in the sciences, liberal arts, and business.
Audition Information

An audition for admission into the music program is required for music majors and minors. For comprehensive audition information, please refer to Instructions for Music Applicants.

  • Musical selections of the standard academic repertoire for your instrument or voice are appropriate (standard, classical, musical theatre, contemporary, etc.), and two or three selections of contrasting style are preferred.
  • Regardless of your instrument or voice, you will be tested in music theory, tonal memory, and rhythmic skills.
  • Your application for admission to Grove City College must be received by the Office of Admissions by your selected application deadline, and you must also complete your music audition by that deadline.
