Program Highlights
  • Undergraduate leadership opportunities on and off campus that will build your confidence and set you apart when you graduate. These include (but are not limited to) conducting and leading large and small ensembles, partnering with faculty on research, creating original compositions, and participating in state-level music organizations.
  • On-campus performance opportunities in 11 faculty-directed ensembles and more than 15 chamber ensembles that perform various genres including classical, jazz, contemporary, and sacred (ranging from our faculty-directed marching band, symphonic orchestra, and touring choir to chamber ensembles like string quartets, woodwind quintets, flute choir, trumpet ensemble, and chamber singers, among others).
  • Internship opportunities such as recently obtained positions with Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Trinity Fellows Program, Glimmerglass Music Festival, JR Judd Violins, Csehy Summer School of Music, and Lamplight Artists.
  • Highly accomplished and widely talented faculty mentors who hold membership in such organizations as ACDA, American Composers Forum, ASTA, BMI, CODA, College Music Society, NAfME, PADESTA, PMEA, Phi Beta Mu, SMTE, and TI:ME.
  • Excellent facilities featuring:
    • 22 Boston Steinway practice pianos and four-manual Kimball organ.
    • 28 practice rooms, organ studio, and harp studio.
    • 700-seat performance hall and theatre, 170-seat recital hall, and large ensemble rehearsal hall.
    • Music technology lab.
  • 46 major credit hours of rigorous undergraduate coursework that lays a solid foundation in music with room to focus on your greatest areas of interest and develop a wide variety of skills in and beyond your major. Music core requirements and additional music requirements include the following. For detailed course descriptions, refer to the College Catalog.
    • Courses in Music Theory, Aural Skills, Music History, Beginning Conducting and Advanced Choral or Instrumental Conducting.
    • Private music lessons in your primary area of voice, piano, or instrument with the same instructor every semester.
    • Participation in at least one ensemble every semester, regardless of your primary instrument.
    • Senior capstone recital.
  • Musical theater minor available through the department, as well as other minors in the sciences, liberal arts, and business. The College’s highly acclaimed Theatre Program puts on a faculty-directed fall musical and student-directed children’s theatre performance each year, as well as plays and one-act festivals that draw student participants from all majors.
  • Vocation-enriching humanities core classes woven into your academic schedule that will help to solidify your worldview and cultivate critical thinking and communication skills, empathy, and a big-picture approach to your discipline.
Career Outcomes
  • If you are like 96% of Grove City graduates, you will be well prepared to compete for top full-time positions or entry into distinguished graduate and professional programs. Our music majors excel in practically every arena of the music industry, with recent graduates employed by groups including The Piano Academy of Scranton, Washington Concert Opera, JR Judd Violins, U.S. Army and Airforce military bands, and Urban Impact, as well as public, private, and Christian schools — from the elementary to collegiate level.
  • Of those who choose to continue their education, recent graduates have pursued advanced degrees in choral, orchestral, and wind conducting, theory, composition, and music education, as well as vocal, piano, and instrumental performance. Institutions where they have pursued such degrees include Carnegie Mellon University, Peabody Conservatory, George Mason University, Indiana University, Notre Dame, Pennsylvania State University, Royal Academy (London), Westminster Choir College, Yale, and Arizona State University School of Law.
  • No matter where your talents take you, you will stand out in your field — equipped to lead and influence others as a dynamic, thoughtful, and versatile musician.
Audition Information

An audition for admission into the music program is required for music majors and minors. For comprehensive audition information, please refer to Instructions for Music Applicants.

  • Regardless of your instrument or voice, you will be tested in music theory, tonal memory, and rhythmic skills.
  • Your application for admission to Grove City College must be received by the Office of Admissions by your selected application deadline, and you must also complete your music audition by that deadline.
