Grove City College offers a Bachelor of Arts in History with a Social Studies Secondary Education Certification. With a degree combining exceptional history coursework, top-notch training in education, and the guidance of faculty who will point you to Christ as the master teacher, you will be well-equipped to inform and inspire young minds through the fascinating story of humankind.

    • Other students have landed internships with such organizations as the Smithsonian, Library of Congress, Old Sturbridge Village, Heinz History Center, The Heritage Foundation, the National Museum of Civil War Medicine, Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, and more.
  • Student enrichment fund – With the help of generous donors, students are able to expand their experiences beyond the classroom with educational trips to Gettysburg, West Point, and other locations.
  • Education Career Services – Offers exceptional education-specific career development and networking opportunities for you as both a student and alumnus of Grove City College. The ECS fosters relationships with private, public, charter, and international schools, as well as other education employers.
  • Licensure assistance through our highly developed certification services – We help students and alumni fulfill state certification requirements, meet testing requirements, and pursue additional certifications as desired.
  • Educational leadership opportunities – Provided through national and international partners in areas such as urban education, gifted education, youth theater programs, ESL programs, and more.
  • Professional opportunities – Attend education conferences and events such as the National Council for Teachers of English, Ed Camp, and various high school outreach programs.
  • Hamilton Curriculum Library – On-campus access to a wealth of resources including school curricular materials, adolescent and young adult literacy materials, and educational technology tools.

  • Phi Alpha Theta – History honorary which celebrates excellence, promotes genuine care for human beings, facilitates tutoring and mentoring among students, and provides opportunities to present papers at national conferences (where Grove City students consistently walk away with 70-80% of prizes for the best papers in their sections).
    • Phi Alpha Theta also facilitates community events such as movie nights, meals, and parties.
  • Other student groups including our award-winning chapter of Kappa Delta Pi (an international education honorary), Secondary Education Society, Council for Exceptional Children, award-winning debate team, and Lux Mea’s Intercollegiate Colloquium on the Liberal Arts.

Program Specifics
    • 89 major credit hours of rigorous undergraduate coursework combining core courses in history and education. For detailed course descriptions, refer to the College Catalog.
      • 30 hours of history core requirements including Freshman Seminar, World Geography, World History I and II, Historiography, Renaissance and Early Modern Europe, Modern Europe, U.S. History to 1865, U.S. History Since 1865, and Minorities in American History.
      • 18 hours of major-related requirements including Principles of Economics (Micro), Principles of Economics (Macro), Comparative Politics, American National Government, Foundations of Cultural Anthropology, and Social Problems.
      • 41 hours of professional education requirements including Introduction to the Teaching Profession, Technologies of Instruction, Educational Psychology, Culturally Relevant Pedagogy, and Secondary Curriculum and Instruction, among other courses.
