BA-History-body_0224

Glean wisdom from the age-old human story.

As a history major at Grove City College, you will study the great ideas that have shaped Western culture and civilizations around the globe, discover timeless truths, and cultivate the critical thinking and research skills to thrive in your vocation — from law and academia to ministry, business, and criminal justice. In pursuit of your history degree, you will be both challenged and encouraged by peers and faculty who share your desire to understand the grand story written by our Creator.

Program Distinctives
  • Rigorous education from a Christ-centered perspective – We affirm God’s hand in human history, acknowledge we are made in His creative image, and study how history is influenced by human fallenness.
  • Intentional mentors – Personal access to accomplished faculty mentors who are doing first-rate research and are committed to teaching future historians.
  • Research alongside faculty –  Students significantly contribute to faculty’s published work and receive hands-on experience with archival research.
  • Senior Capstone Project – Senior history majors are required to submit an independent capstone project on a topic of their choosing. Some students go on to publish their research or present at regional and national conferences.
    • Students have researched the histories of local churches, prohibition in Pittsburgh, the resurging influence of Arthurian legends, Puritan Sumptuary Laws in Colonial England, the Civil War, and so much more.
  • Minor options –  Minor in classical studies, as well as various other minors in complementary disciplines such as classical Christian education, political science, or philosophy.
  • Flexibility to double major in other disciplines – Broadens your range of career opportunities after graduation. Popular pairings include adding a major in philosophy, business, or English.
  • Unique internship opportunities – Grow professionally in the field.

    • Phi Alpha Theta also facilitates community events such as movie nights, meals, and parties for involved students.
  • Countless other student-led organizations through which you can pursue your passions and grow in servant leadership, including our award-winning debate team, law society, and Lux Mea’s Intercollegiate Colloquium on the Liberal Arts.
  • Vocation-enriching humanities core classes woven into your academic schedule that will cultivate greater empathy, critical thinking, writing and other communication skills, and a well-rounded understanding of the world and your place in it.
