Are you a gifted teacher with a passion for sharing the wonders of science, technology, engineering, and math with students? Grove City College is now offering a 12-credit, four-course online STEM endorsement program that can propel you into outstanding leadership as a STEM educator in diverse PreK-12 settings. With the need for effective STEM education in ever-increasing demand, this is a unique opportunity for you to make a meaningful impact on students in the life-enhancing STEM fields.

Program Specifics
  • Convenient online instruction in courses approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
  • Four sequential ACT 48-eligible courses exploring pedagogy and learning while cultivating mastery and professionalism.
  • Course sequence following the developmental arch of students of all grades, emphasizing a commitment to meeting the diverse needs of all learners.
Who can apply? 

Post-baccalaureate students with a minimum 3.0 college QPA who are Pennsylvania-certified Level I or Level II teachers may apply.

How to Apply

Submit the following to the Office of Admissions no later than December 12 for the spring semester: 

  • Education STEM Endorsement Application
  • Official college transcript(s)
  • A copy of your current Pennsylvania Level I or Level II Teaching Certificate
  • $50 application fee. Please make check payable to Grove City College and mail with application materials to:

Course Descriptions

EDUC 510: Integrative STEM for Early Childhood and Elementary School (3 hours)
This course focuses on STEM topics, methods, curriculum, and instruction for school students in early childhood grades PreK-4 and elementary school settings. In this course, you will (a) gain exposure the standards knowledge of standards that are pivotal in the STEM field, (b) explore how STEM can be involved in other disciplines and used in cross-curricular activities and lessons, and (c) explore inquiry-based teaching and learning methodologies to teach different STEM topics effectively. In addition, you will participate in a field component in which you will design, implement, and systematically reflect on lessons and units, incorporating an integrative STEM learning cycle approach and developmentally appropriate methodology for PreK-4 students. 

EDUC 511: Integrative STEM for Adolescent and Middle School (3 hours)
This course focuses on the STEM topics, methods, curriculum, and instruction for school students in grades 4-8. The course is designed for candidates seeking an endorsement in Integrative Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Education. In this course, you will (a) apply knowledge of standards that are pivotal in the STEM field, (b) create cross-curricular lessons, and (c) apply inquiry-based teaching and learning methodologies to teach STEM topics. In addition, you will participate in a field component in which you will design, implement, and systematically reflect on lessons and units, incorporating an integrative STEM learning cycle approach and developmentally appropriate methodology for grades 4-8 students. Prerequisite: EDUC 510. 

EDUC 512: Integrative STEM for Secondary and High School (3 hours) 
This course focuses on STEM topics, methods, curriculum, and instruction for school students in secondary settings, grades 9-12. In this course, you will (a) apply knowledge of the standards to create and implement lesson plans in the field, (b) explore hot topics in STEM education such as robotics and 3D printing, and (c) gain hands-on experience with technology tools used in STEM education. In addition, you will participate in a field component in which you will design, implement, and systematically reflect on lessons and units, incorporating an integrative STEM learning cycle approach and developmentally appropriate methodology for grades 9-12 students. Prerequisite: EDUC 511. 

EDUC 513: STEM Practicum and Applied Leadership (3 hours)
This capstone course is designed to integrate previously learned concepts in other STEM endorsement classes through a long-range service project and teaching experience in a PreK-12 setting. The course is designed to develop your ability to dynamically impact schools and the field of education as a whole. Critical course components include engagement with STEM community partners from business and industry outside of the PreK-12 settings, developing recourses for those teaching in the PreK-12 setting, and furthering the promotion of STEM teaching and learning. The course covers the themes of STEM in Society and Professions, STEM Education, and STEM Educational Leadership.
