Freshman Year

Get Experience
Consider joining one or more of the student groups geared toward pre-law such as:
 
Talk About It

Meet with your faculty advisor to discuss your interest in law and your major. Study hard and focus on improving your writing skills. Talk to your parents and other mentors about your interests and pray about your direction. 

 
  • Meet with your faculty advisor.
  • Meet with the pre-law advisor, Dr. Caleb Verbois.
  • Pray about it.
  • Consider the pre-law minor. 

Sophomore Year

Repeat 
  • Repeat the freshman steps.
  • Sign up for the pre-law minor if you have not done so already. 
In the Fall
Talk to your faculty advisor and the pre-law advisor about internships, especially over Christmas break.
 

Junior Year

Plan Ahead
Take the upper-level courses in the pre-law minor and begin planning ahead:
 
  • Make a list of law schools you are interested in.
  • In the spring, begin preparing for the LSAT with the goal of taking it over the summer. 
  • Start contacting alumni with questions (see the pre-law advisor for help).

Senior Year

Apply!
 
  • Plan to apply early to law school and talk to the pre-law advisor about where to apply and how to craft your essay.
  • Talk to recent alumni about their experiences in law school.
Consider Your Options
  • In the spring, if accepted, prayerfully consider your options.
  • Utilize advisors and alumni to weigh different schools.
