The Grove City College Wolverine Marching band has historically been one of the largest Division III college marching bands in the country. In addition to performing at every home football game, the marching band is called upon to serve as the honor band for many marching band festivals, parades, and special guest appearances. The band has been the featured college band on the "Boardwalk" at the Miss America Parade in Atlantic City, has performed at Walt Disney World multiple times, and has recorded marching band music for Jalen Publishing Company. The marching band is directed by Dr. Andrew Erb, Professor of Music.
The Jazz Ensemble program includes an 18-piece stage band, 18-piece jazz ensemble, jazz sextet, and smaller combos. The stage band plays big band standards and show pieces. The Jazz Ensemble plays a variety of modern jazz arrangements and jazz styles such as fusion, jazz-rock, Latin, and salsa; the ensemble also performs big band pieces occasionally. The Jazz Ensemble performs multiple concerts both on and off campus and have given special performances all over the East Coast including Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Charlotte, Tampa, West Palm Beach, and Walt Disney World in Orlando. The ensemble frequently performs as the featured band at many local and regional high school festivals and is led by Dr. Joe Hasper, Professor of Music.
The Symphonic Concert Band is the largest concert band on campus and is made up of music majors and non-music majors. It performs the classic standards of wind band literature as well as pops and new compositions. In recent years, the band has worked with notable guest composers such as Robert W. Smith, James Swearingen, Drew Fennell, and Patrick Burns. The Symphonic Concert Band is directed by Dr. Andrew Erb, Professor of Music.
The Wind Ensemble is the select wind band on campus. A smaller group in the vein of the traditional open instrumentation style of wind ensembles, it performs literature of the highest caliber in the wind band repertoire. The Wind Ensemble has premiered several new works in recent years and is directed by Dr. Andrew Erb, Professor of Music.
The Wolverine Pep Band plays for men's and women's home basketball games and is a great way to make music in a fun, exciting, and laid-back setting.
