The Quad is founded on the idea that learning is not confined to the classroom. Education is for the whole person, and this holistic pursuit of the intellectual life should never be divorced from a pursuit of God. All truth, we believe, is God’s truth. The Quad aspires to develop the mind in Christ and seeks to feed the soul as well as the intellect.

In 2002, the Hall of Arts and Letters, which houses the Calderwood School, was dedicated in honor of Dr. Alva J. Calderwood who graduated from Grove City College in 1896. After pursuing graduate studies at Harvard University, Calderwood returned to Grove City College to spend the remainder of his life teaching and serving as an administrator. He was a professor for 53 years and dean of the College for 35 years.
