NC-SARA, the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements, is a non-profit organization that helps expand students’ access to educational opportunities and ensure more efficient, consistent, and effective regulation of distance education programs. NC-SARA works to establish comparable national standards for interstate offerings of post-secondary distance education courses and programs. Grove City College participates in NC-SARA and meets yearly regulations that keep the college in good standing with the organization. NC-SARA’s intention is to make it easier for students to take online courses and complete field experiences offered by post-secondary institutions based in another state. Grove City College is a participating SARA institution. By participating in NC-SARA, Grove City College is able to offer online courses to students in every SARA state. The SARA map identifies other participating states and districts. If you have any questions regarding state authorization, please email registrar@gcc.edu. Please note that NC-SARA does not address professional licensure issues. Professional Licensure – Teaching Education The Pennsylvania Department of Education has approved the Grove City College Education Department to offer certification programs that lead to Initial Instructional I certificates. All of these programs are offered in person on campus and cannot be completed in an online format. While Grove City College cannot confirm that our programs meet the requirements for licensure/certification in any other state than our commonwealth, the Education Department has a full-time Certification Officer who assists students and graduates who complete the Pennsylvania Department of Education Instructional I Certification in transferring that certificate to other states. To facilitate this process, the Certification Officer and Teacher Candidate utilize the NASDETC Agreement website and additional resources to determine what steps a candidate must complete in order to transfer their Pennsylvania Teaching Credential to the proposed state, territory, or country. Grove City College graduates have gone on to earn teaching certificates in over 30 states, territories, and countries. If more details are needed, please consult with our full-time Certification Officer by contacting the Grove City College Education Department at 724-658-2400. Distance Education Complaint Process Grove City College makes every effort to resolve student complaints internally, using policies and procedures outlined in the current Grove City College Bulletin, the Crimson Student Handbook, and the Graduate Studies Booklet. The institutional complaint process for distance learning students is the same for all students regardless of physical location. It is expected that students will fully utilize any and all such administrative procedures to address concerns and/or complaints in as timely a manner as possible. In the unlikely event that a student is unable to resolve an issue internally, he/she may contact the Pennsylvania Department of Education. For students who reside outside Pennsylvania, students may refer to the NC-SARA website for resources to aid in the filing of a complaint.
