Grove City College to host "Christ is Born" traveling art exhibit
1/23/2013
Grove City College will host “Christ is Born,” a traveling
art exhibition, from Tuesday, Feb. 12, through Saturday, March 9, 2013, in the
Pew Fine Arts Center Art Gallery on campus. An opening reception will be held
from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15.
The exhibit is a program of CIVA (Christians in the Visual
Arts). The 19 pieces in the exhibition tell the story that Christ is born, God
is with us. The works span five centuries and 10 countries.
The show begins with a 16
th
century woodcut of the Annunciation by Albrect Altdorfer, followed by the Vistitation
by Albrecht Dürer, and including works by historical artists Aegidius Sadeler,
Simon Fricius, Jacob Jordean and Henri Matisse, as well as more contemporary
artists such as Joan Bohilg, Sadao Watanabe, Rudolph Bostic, Bruce Herman,
Tatiana Grant and Tyrus Clutter. Each piece offers interesting and
informative insights into the biblical text and the way artists have
interpreted the incarnation story.
The Art Gallery is open Tuesdays
through Fridays from 12 to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is
also open during evening events in the Pew Fine Arts Center.
