Diversity at Grove City College

Diversity at Grove City College

“Many lessons can be attained in an environment that is multicultural, intellectual and social. Therefore, increasing the number of minority students on campus not only creates opportunities for those students who enroll, but also enhances the educational preparation of all students,” said Dr. Lorie Johnson-Osho, Professor of Education and Director of Multicultural Recruiting and Retention.

Personal accountability in today’s society will require heightened awareness and respect for cultural differences and perspectives. The next generation of leaders must be equipped with skills to deal successfully with continual change, different viewpoints, and varied approaches to problem solving.

At Grove City College you will find a diverse mix of students, many academic majors, and interests that creates the framework of a vibrant community. As much as six percent of our undergraduates are multi-ethnic students. Students are actively involved in more than 130 clubs and organizations. Many of the groups sponsor activities, services, projects and mission trips that foster diversity. Over 60 percent of the students are involved in intramurals and varsity athletics. The College has 19 teams that compete at the NCAA Division level, and club sports are also available. Students can take on a leadership role, expand their social network or have fun participating in one of the College’s organizations including:

  • Association for Women Students
  • Steel City Ministries
  • Inter-Cultural Club
  • S.E.A.D. (Students Excited About Diversity)
  • Project Okello
  • iL.e.a.d. (Initiative for Leadership Educational Development)

Grove City College is actively focused on fostering a diverse learning environment by promoting a climate of respect, unity and service. We celebrate our different backgrounds, such as ethnic origin and denominational affiliation, as a reflection of our oneness in Christ. This commitment takes shape in the diversity of our students, faculty and administration; in our campus organizations; and in the arts, athletics and other extracurricular activities. Students not only emerge from Grove City College with a true appreciation and respect for all people, but also with the skills to be successful in today’s complex world.
