GROVE CITY, Pa. – Professor of English Dr. Eric Potter was named the 2009 Grove City College Professor of the Year at a ceremony in Harbison Chapel on April 30.

Potter joined the Grove City College faculty in 2000. He earned his bachelor’s degree in English from Wheaton College and his master’s and Ph.D. in English from the University of Virginia. His interests include contemporary American poetry, and he has published a number of poems and articles. Prior to his position at Grove City College, he taught writing and American literature for the five years at Toccoa Falls College in Georgia. He has also taught at Marymount University, Northern Virginia Community College and Mary Washington College.

Potter is an adviser to “The Echo,” the literary magazine on campus. Potter and his wife, Sarah, reside in Grove City with their three children: Sam, Will and Anna.

The Professor of the Year was initiated in 2000 by the Omicron Delta Kappa campus leadership honorary and is sponsored by the Grove City College Alumni Association. Past winners include: Dr. David Jones (2008), Larry Fleming (2007), Dr. Ralph Carlson ’62 (2006), Dr. James Bibza (2005), Richard Leo (2004), Dr. James Dixon (2003), Dr. Timothy Homan (2002), Dr. John Sparks ’66 (2001) and Dr. Gary Smith ’72 (2000).
