Do you feel like you made any concessions to come to a school that is reasonably priced?
I do not feel like I made any concessions to come to a school that is reasonably priced. The kinds of perks that money can buy are nothing compare to Grove City College’s best asset, its vibrant community of intellectual Christians.
Overall, how would you describe the spiritual environment at Grove City College?
Grove City College reliably provides its students with the resources to grow in their spiritual lives – from lists of area churches to excellent speakers, from a plethora of Bible studies to regular campus worship, from devoted Christian faculty to RAs that pray with their residents.
How would you describe the level of academics you have experienced during your time at Grove City College?
I was very impressed with the level of academics in the Grove City College Department of Mathematics. The department offers an assortment upper level mathematics courses, and professors are eager to help in office hours.
What are some of the ways that professors ensure that students not only receive information but truly learn and understand how to apply that information?
One philosophy professor, while teaching about the capital vices, ensured that his students truly applied what they learned by assigning a variety of spiritual exercises. He effectively transformed our class into a community of fellow journeymen in the capital vice tradition.
Can you describe some of your own personal experiences in these campus activities?
While at Grove City College, I had the privilege of competing on the Grove City College debate team, a group which has the distinction of being the most animated bunch of fanatic intellectuals I have ever been a member of. While on the debate team, I got to travel with my team members to tournaments and spend whole days competing in debates. Arguing about obscure issues with such enthused, intellectual people became a source of intense camaraderie for me, if not from the shared intellectual fanaticism, then at least from the sheer strangeness of our hobby.
