How big of a role did the affordability of Grove City College play in your college decision making process?
I know my parents have appreciated the lower tuition costs during some tough financial times. Ultimately, Grove City College’s affordability played a large role in my ability to stay at school.
Overall, how would you describe the spiritual environment at Grove City College?
I think the spiritual environment is very present here. No one is “required” to be a Christian to attend here, yet I’ve found more spiritual guidance and fulfillment here than I think I would have any other place. We get to see multiple sides of the story: What happens when you follow Christ, and what happens when you don’t. This allows us as students to make our own choices about our faith, rather than living inside a bubble of people who all believe the same thing.
How would you describe the level of academics you have experienced during your time at Grove City College?
The academics are tough. I’m one of those students who never really studied in high school and didn’t struggle in classes. That changed a lot when I got here. I find the academics here to be challenging. They require studying and work, but they’re not impossible. Professors are helpful and are willing to work with you if you don’t understand something.
What are some of the ways that professors ensure that students not only receive information but truly learn and understand how to apply that information?
We are given the opportunity to apply that information while we are in school. For example, I’ve taken three conducting courses at school, and when I graduate, I will have had three opportunities to conduct a college group and work with a professor more individually on conducting.
What advice would you give to an incoming student?
Do your laundry weekly – trust me, it piles up. Also, be open to others. Don’t feel like you have to be friends with the same people all through college. Find a diverse group of friends, join lots of campus groups, and get involved in activities. Also, make friends with your professors, especially your advisor. This is helpful for scheduling, yes, but our professors are also great people who are truly interested in your life. Take the unique opportunity to befriend your professors and gain knowledge into the future. They know a whole lot more than you!
How would you describe the relationship that the students have with each other on campus?
Students are relatively friendly. We’re human beings, so we certainly have cliques, and here we are often prone to pettiness. But in general, the students here are well-meaning, hard-working, godly individuals.
